Petrie:

* Said he took some responsibility for the team's performance over the last few years. Said they tried to do what they could given the ownership constraints the past few years, and this year they were given the green light to spend on free agents so they brought in free agents.

* Said the A/T ratio the past 3-4 years has not been good.

* Said only four players on the roster were on the team two seasons ago, and two of them aren't really playing.

Q: Does this coaching change have anything to do with the push to put a competitive team and try to get a new arena?
A: No.

Q: How was this team doing with respect to the expectations?
A: What were the expectations?

* Said he wasn't going to talk about the press release on Sunday and was going to move forward.

* Said they needed to make decisions in real-time. (My interpretation: They needed to act quickly). Said they needed to react to things.

* Said he met with Westphal yesterday about the way the team was performing. Said ownership wasn't involved.

Smart:

Q: What are the terms of your contract?
A: I'm working for free. <Press room erupts in laughter>

* Said he wasn't going to discuss the terms of his contract today.

* Said he's going to have an up-tempo team.

* Said he's going to have methods and policies in place to help the players understand what they need to do and ensure they do. Said he's going to have the same policies for everyone.

* Said he's going to determine the lineups from here on. Said he'll give the group a chance to succeed or fail today, and then work from there.

* Said the low assists were partially attributed to poor shooting.

* Said he had some ideas at the end of last season that he wanted to implement, and is glad to have the chance to do them now. Even though it's a different roster, he said he can still try some of those ideas.

* Said Cousins looked like a professional for the first time yesterday. Said he needs to see that from him everyday, or help him get to play that way everyday.

I like alot of what Smart had to say. Let's see this team in action though

Um, Mr. Petrie, aren't you sitting on the league minimum currently?

I guess I should have told him which higher caliber ones to get.

Hayes can come off the bench

If Hayes is better than Jordan, he starts.

Jordan can come off the bench.

(TNT hasn't responded to my Chris Webber email inquiry yet.)

Jordan doesn't box out. He's not that great of a defensive player.

Look how slow footed he is here:

Hayes > Jordan for this team.

Hayes is really garbage IMO...
a backup at the best

The Kings really screwed themselves by no going all in with Sam....he is why the Kings finished strong last year

Here's him committing a foul on transition defense:

BTW, among centers over the last 3 years, he has the 4th highest foul rate. He can't stay in games.

I think Hayes can make more of an impact than he's shown. He's played better the last few years. If I don't see things improve over the next 2-3 weeks, then I'll agree he's garbage.

I did like the way Dalembert-Cousins played last year when they started, but only would have wanted to give him 3 years max. It turns out, due to the way FA played out, he would have been attainable.

For now, I still think Hayes post defense can make a difference, and you'll start to see him make passes from the high post. If it doesn't end up like that (maybe he'll be useless in Smart's system), then I'll agree he was a waste.

Here's the foul issue I was talking about, with Jordan.

Yes Dalembert is on that list too, I was concerned about that when he was signed. But he didn't seem to get in the kind of trouble he'd get in Philly. I still have box scores from Philly where he'd have 4 fouls at the half.

i listened to the Grant portion of the show.

I enjoyed Smart's presser. I don't view him as a long term coach but i liked him for GS and i think he is good for the team with so much youth.

Also, got a kick out of Grant not answering anybody's questions. Every call "I don't know" "i won't say" "I DONT KNOW!"

I would have to agree that Jordan is not all that....never was more than an athletic rebounder...with energy

You can see what I was talking about. He has the potential to be a Tyson Chandler type defender. But he has a LONG ways to go. Kings can't afford on another project, they need some proven defenders now IMO.

Chandler, in his 4th year, was a more polished defender off the bench for Chicago in 2004-2005. He averaged almost 10 boards a game off the bench too, lol.
