5 votes.......I don't see why it won't pass. If it does those that vote against it better move far away.

It should - I agree. Pretty amazing considering it wasn't that long ago that their feet were out the door. Kevin Johnson is the man.

for it not to pass vote..somebody who has been voting in favor of it all along would have to change his/her vote..correct?

I'm very stoked. While i saw myself always being a Kings fan..it has been hard to sell myself out with this hanging over the cities head. What a load off.

I have a hunch it will be close to everyone voting yes..as long as they have a way setup to make that 9mil per year back up from the lost parking revenue

great news, not sure if someone placed guns to the Maloofs heads but anyways I will quit bad mouthing them for now. KJ deserves a lot of credit and should be proud. Now I can get excited about this young team without the worry Cousins will dominate the league soon in another city.

Joe and Gavin sincerely seemed like they wanted to stay - Gavin even broke down crying. George is a dickhead though and clearly wanted (and wants) Anaheim.

a couple council members will have to vote no to get reelected
There is a majority here that want the Kings gone....even if it's the best thing for Sac

Liberals are aligned against it

Not sure what Georges problem is....he doesn't have to live here, and the Kings would completely flop in LA
be like moving the Hornets to New York...., stupid

Me either. He was clearly the thorn in the side of the talks yesterday.

Then again, he did help drive the Palms into the ground, so, he knows his business.

Quotes from George, or what do you see from him?

Also, this probably isn't public information, but what are the ownership breakdowns, by %?

* George Sr. Maloof
* Gavin Maloof
* Joe Maloof
* Phil Maloof
* Adrienne Maloof-Nassif
* George Jr. Maloof
* Robert Hernreich (he was the one accused of domestic violence in 2006-2007).
* Joe Benvenuti

Were you referring to George Jr., or George Sr.? Are both Sr. and Jr. owners?

He just kept referring back to Anaheim - what a good deal it was, and according to those there, was clearly the opposition to staying in Sacramento. He tried to play it off like he was the voice of reason and just checking the p's and q's, but don't buy it.

He said he wanted them to go to Anaheim in the past - nothing's changed. And I was talking about Jr.

Amick had a nice little piece on George's pity party: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/sam_amick/02/26/sacramento.kings/index.html

County voted to go forward with helping 4 to 1.

County Board votes 4 to 1 to support #arena funding proposal. Only MacGlashan says no.

Im still against the Maloofs. Im sure none of them want to be hear and Gavin and Joe kinda got backed into a corner. They showed there true colors last yr but even trying to move us. I was at the game tonight and saw him break into tears due to the standing ovation he got. I stayed down in my seat. Then Kevin Johnson came out (while I was sitting near courtside before I got kicked out the seats =]) and he got the standing ovation!!! This city would not have the Kings if anyone else was in office. Thank You Mayor Johnson for all the time you have put into arena and giving this city a professional ball team. I think u can also thank the Clippers for making La a little more congested where a new team might not stand a chance being out there.

I'll never feel the same about the Maloofs after last year but I do understand that at the end of the day they're businessmen and it was a business decision, though admittedly not a very good one and probably born of desperation. I do believe that Joe and Gavin would have preferred to stay here all along if there had of been a legitimate arena deal in place sooner. That doesn't make up for the fact that they tried to walk out on Sacramento with little warning, though. They could have at least been up front and given the city an official deadline before trying to bail out. However, not so ironically, them trying to leave the way they did provided just the level of scare the city needed to finally get off their collective asses and get something done on the arena front. Still though, I'll always see the Maloofs as a bit shady and not entirely trustworthy from here on out. But if they'd just spend some freaking money on the team, I'd be happy!

Same here - just wont ever feel the same for them. At one point, they were no different than Webber, Peja, Jason, etc. They were universally loved.

I appreciate their efforts, especially recently, but if not for the fans and local community last year - they were gone, "love" Sacramento or not.

No one has brought up yet how Maloof Sports and Entertainment cut their radio broadcast pregame show from 60 minutes, to 30 minutes, a few years ago? That's as bad as anything. If you want to feel like a low-class NBA team, that's one way to do it.

After being used to a 60 minute pregame show for a long time, 30 is still hard to get used to.

Not only that, but Maloof Sports and Entertainment hire a cheesy production crew. They come up with cheesy slogans like "Tonight's GOLD STANDARD matchup" or "Here's today's King-Size pregame show".

The in-arena entertainment is cheap, with a few cheesy grainy videos that have been shown for too many years. For example, they had one of "funny cats". That's something I had seen on YouTube 3-4 years ago. Compare that to the Warriors, who at least have guys jumping off of trampolines and dunking.

I don't know if they still use the video this year, but they used another video for too many years too. The one where Slamson (presumably a male) kicks a female out of his bed because she's wearing a Lakers jersey. That's a good video for the first year it is shown, but you can't use the same video every year. Find something else. Come up with something new. Produce.

The only good decision Maloof Sports and Entertainment has done is continuing to hire Gary Gerould.

And I did like how they resurrected a video of Doug Christie saying "On your feet" in the 4th quarter, at a game I was at maybe two years ago. That was a nice touch.

They also got the Webber and Divac retirement nights right. The production was good.

But there are too many other aspects of either their in-game production, their TV broadcast production, or their radio broadcast production, that feels like they hire their production crew out of college interns.

So Maloof Sports and Entertainment need to step up their radio pre-game show back to 60 minutes. And they need a better marketing department.

The Giants usually have a great marketing team, without coming across as cheesy. Good slogans, good commercials. The A's marketing is decent too.

The Kings? :dilia_nono:

How about kicking out employees from the pre-game media spread or telling particular players/team members to stay home to avoid travel fees? lol

That said - it's generally a common practice of teams who are nearing/hoping to near a new arena to be extremely cheap so the money can be better spent when the new venue is ready.

Not that I think the Kings were doing that though.

Can you explain this one? I recall reading something about it a while ago, but don't remember anymore.

Did it have anything to do with the lockout that was coming up?

But if you're saying what I think you're saying, that's another strike against Maloof Sports and Entertainment.

Sometimes I think Division I-A production crews get more for their budget. Or just plain give more production entertainment.

They had told Kenny Thomas (and a couple other scenarios for non-essential team members like trainers, etc) to not go on road trips to keep non-needed costs down.

Also for a time period (don't think it's still active) Kings employees weren't allowed to eat any of the pre-game media food. They had to wait until the game started.

I don't blame them one bit.....it was VERY evident that Sac (at the time) was not going to get behind the Team
they were losing money, losing fan support

I would have been outa here too....they gave the City every hint for years

All it took was some fan movement and some local businesses tossing in some sponsorships. Now granted, that might not happen without the initial fan reaction, but, I think they themselves could've done a lot more than they did.

I don't dislike them or anything - but they don't hold the same appeal they once did.

Certainly understand it from a business standpoint, buttttt - not sure they handled it correctly.

I didn't know that, thanks. That's terrible.

While I wasn't a fan of the pre-game TV show (at least the style they had from 2004-2007), I know others liked it, and used it the same way I use the pre-game radio show. To get my mind into the game, and hear some chatter about it.

But it was their own fault they were losing money and fan support. They were putting a poor product on the floor but still had some of the highest ticket prices in the league. Even still the sellouts lasted through 2007. Did they really expect the sellouts to continue in 2008, 2009, and 2010, with high tickets prices, one of the worst teams in the league, and in a bad economy? It's just not a realistic expectation. Even large market support would decline under those circumstances. Sacramento supported this team almost unconditionally for a little over 20 years, and they're ready to ship out after two or three seasons of lessened support? Sounds more like fair weather owners than fair weather fans. I get that it's a business and all but when your business is failing because your product sucks, you don't move to greener pastures, you improve your product.
