I think it is a smart move, team has had no consistency since Adleman. I mean its kind of like the 49ers and alex smith. How can players succeed when as soon as they learn a new coach, playbook, and all their schemes offensively and defensively then that coach gets fired and in comes a whole new system they have to learn... its gotta be difficult and with a young team, they have to learn to play, learn, and grow together as a whole unit and I think they need stability to do that.

I'm not sold on Smart, but the Kings won't get a bondafide coach for this team so might as well see what he can do.
I'm trying to figure out what the benefit of picking it up now is? Why?

Good move by the Kings. THey did it right now to show everyone the direction we are going in. I know his record isnt outstanding but wat he has got out these players have been. He even has a vet( Salmons) riding the bench and thank God for that too. He actually coachs n yells at the players and is active on the sidelines and thats something we havent had in ALONG time.

Agreed. Record does not mean everything. I think even though we've been losing a lot, lately it seems like we just lose by 5 or 6 points or so. Eventually as he spends more time with this team and this team increases its chemistry, we'll start winning those games. And I actually have hope with smart. With Westphal it was like 'eh lets hope tyreke goes off for 30 we might win". He seems to be making the entire team a winning team(even though its not necessarly showing..yet).

I like Smart and I think he's done well enough to warrant one more year. I say that with some trepidation though because his lineups have really gotten crazy lately. You need a solidified starting 5 and guys need to get relatively consistent minutes. A coach that's too reactive an too quick to change a lineup can be damaging to a team because is stifles chemistry and can kill player's confidence. This team needs structure, defined roles, and consistency, not seeming random lineup changes. I hope this doesn't become a habit with Smart the way it did his predecessor.

There's probably a stated deadline in his contract or something.
Look at how past contract options were picked up, they seemed to have similar deadlines (if you extrapolate this season a few weeks later than in the past, due to the lockout).

His rotations are fine.
Don't see anything in the offense that stands out.
Good teams win games by 15+ points, not 4-6. Even if they won a few of those 4-6 point games, they still haven't even had a 12 point lead on a team all year. They've reached 10 points a few times (Hornets, Wizards, Nuggets) and 11 points twice (Nuggets, and one previous time).
Don't see much improvement in the defense, within the year.
They've done a great job with turnovers lately.

What do you think they've changed to limit the number of turnovers they've had? (Last night's game excluded)

Players need to play consistently to get consistent minutes.
Ideally it works that way, but not when you have a roster with only two or three consistent players. Continually juggling guys in and out of the lineup isn't going to solve anything. Doing that has gotten them a 12/25 record. At some point you have to just pick who you think your five best starting options are and stick with them, and a consistent bench rotation behind them.

So who would u have in SF. Salmons whos broke every game? Donte wanna be like "Kobe" Greene? Garcia?? I think he needs to ride with Honeycut and stick with it, but apparently hes the coach and we need to let him do his thing according to Smart lol I believe we need a consistent lineup but when ppl are in the slumps u cant put em in the lineup and ride with it. We need a trade and get a legit SF and a real ball handler and I think ull get the most out our players and see where everyones potential is once the right pieces are in place. Anyhow did any of you read that Chris Webber was mentoring Cousins???? Well I read the other day that Smart brought in Ast Coach from Boston Ray something and hes our new big man coach???? Does that take away from Webber helping Cousins?? I wasnt strong about hearing we got a big man coach but when I take a step back and look i think its good. Not cause it will teach our big men anything cause I mean who did Boston develope during the yrs? Big Baby? They had Gnet in his prime so he dont count. I think when Smart option was picked up, now ur gonna see more moves from Smart. Reemember he got thrown in to the wolves after Westfault left. SO we may see new ASt coachs and other staff. I guess its the right direction when the coach starts bringing inm his type of staff instead of working with the failures staff.
Webber wasn't really helping Cousins from an on-court perspective, mostly just talking on the phone/in-person when they're at the same venue. Offering advice, if you will.

Honeycutt is really bad though.....I know he has potential, but we would be screaming after a short time to get him outa there
