Cousins goal for the rest of the game should be to deny Jefferson. Have Thompson double-team if needed. Or Hayes.

Ok, turned video on. It's not choppy if I have two side-by-side, for some reason. I didn't want to do that earlier though because it's too distracting.

nuraman00

Salmons got screened out by Favors badly. Jazz still missed the open 3-pointer though. Cousins on the fast break, scores.

Jefferson is playing with a ferocious style over the past month. Definitely eating his Wheaties. Great game. Too many missed ft's. Of course, falling behind by 14 doesn't help either.
Can you imagine Jefferson playing alongside Cousins...That would be amazing! They Kept Thorton quiet most of the night. Which, does not surprise me. The word is out on Thornton and teams are going to be gunning to shut him down the rest of the season. That will leave it up to Reke and Cuz. Thomas, showed tonight why he's better off the bench. He can't hang with bigger guards.

Evans just isn't good from midrange and further. Unless there's enough time for a shot within 8 feet, he'll miss.

I wanted a half court Tyreke shot haha

:) Memphis was in Portland tonight, unfortunately.

I wanted a game-winning assist. Or game-typing. Like what Nate Robinson did with Klay Thompson.

I'd like to see Evans-to-Fredette (if Fredette hurries up and develops before Evans is no longer on the team).

Maybe a small thing, but he is maturing

kingraider412
03-22-2012, 10:33 PM
Evans might be playing his last month in Sac. Either that, or he has one offseason to get some kind of midrange going, if not the Kings will trade him by the next deadline. He's not worth a max contract if he stays the type of player he is now. Thornton, while more of a defensive liabililty, is more versatile offensively and has no problem taking the big shot. Unless, Reke Penetrates for layups, he can't do much else offensively to scare anyone.

I thought Evans the past two games has been really good - active all over on both sides.

I'm not too worried about him getting a shot -that's the easiest thing to fix.

Who are players you think improved their shot the most, over the years? Can you name 3, that you're thinking of, in the past 15 years?

Use Hoop Data, as it breaks down their shooting percentages by distance.

Evans needs two things:

1. 48 minute defensive awareness.
2. A midrange game.

If he does both, he'll have a great 10 year career.

At his current levels, I'm thinking only a 7-8 year career with a key role.

But you do want to see the following sequence, right?

"Evans, drives down the middle, kicks out to Fredette. Catch-and-shoot, it's good!"

I think it depends on how one is going to qualify "improved" shooting. For somebody like Evans, you're not looking for him to become gunner - you just need to be able to make an open shot - be it from 6 feet out or 23 at a decent clip. In addition to that, it's about understanding what's a good shot and what's not, which usually plays just as big a role in the improved FG%. Something like a 3% overall change would be pretty significant, IMO. I think, although he's better, Evans still will take questionable shots. Simply removing those would be a big help.

James Harden, Rudy Gay, Josh Smith are some guys off the top of my head who struggled early in their NBA careers who've become respectable shots.

I think the most unfortunate thing with Evans is his age. When he came into the league, he did something only MJ, Oscar and Lebron did and did that at 20 years old, essentially out of high school. Between that and the ROY award his expectations went beyond sky high into savior mode.

Nuraman, hit the nail on the head. Mid range and consistent defense. He's going to be under the microscope next year. A contract year. 2013-14 free agents are pretty sweet when you look at my earlier post. alot of nice players avail, and one year before the new arena opens. I would think he does not deserve a max deal, unless the 2 aforementioned areas improve and the Kings will look to trade before the deadline or cut him loose.

Eze
03-23-2012, 06:13 PM
I think it might be interesting to see what other teams do when Evans does reach restricted free agency. They might try to low-ball a franchise player type contract, but still make it more than the Kings would like to pay - put the Kings in a tough position.

I like the Gay and Smith analogies. Good post.

A few years ago, when I would watch them play, I would still think there would be a point in the game where they'd take a few questionable shots, miss, and allow the other team to get back or increase their lead.

Now, when I watch them, I don't have such reservations. I feel they're going to be efficient all game long.
