Keys:
1. Isaiah Thomas. Nate Robinson has had the edge during the past two meetings, visibly frustrating Thomas IMO. Robinson seems two steps ahead of Thomas at both ends of the floor.

Jefferson with some great defense, before he fouls.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 08:13 PM

03-24-2012, 08:17 PM
Garcia slips past Klay Thompson.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 08:19 PM
I hope Klay Thompson is making Warriors fans get over Ellis.
He's cheaper, and can develop into a good player. Yes, it's always going to be a problem that he can't create his shot as well as Ellis. But he's also difficult to guard, in his own way, too.
PackfanMatt_12
03-24-2012, 08:23 PM
there is the fouling Cousins we know and hate

03-24-2012, 08:33 PM

Kings don't try nearly as much or hustle as much against bad teams (which is odd because they are a bad team and usually great teams are the ones that don't try against bad teams)

03-24-2012, 08:37 PM

nuraman00
03-24-2012, 08:38 PM
STOP THOMPSON!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they stop Thompson, then I'll bet Jeremy Tyler ends up with 9 points, 4 assists, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks.

Warriors guards just seem quicker.
Also, here's another way to think about it. A week and a half ago, Nate Robinson, David Lee, Rodney Stuckey, and Greg Monroe (the Kings losses) played better than Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Luke Ridnour, and Kevin Love (the Kings wins).
Part of the Kings wins during that stretch was that the opposition didn't play as well as expected.
Right now, Klay Thopmson is having a game similar to the first list -- Robinson, Lee, Stuckey, Monroe.

You're supposed to win some games against +.500 teams. No team loses them all.
The Kings have 8 wins against +.500 teams.
http://espn.go.com/nba/standings/_/type/expanded/group/1
That puts them 23rd in the league.
That's not too far off where they are in the league standings too.
I enjoyed those wins, but big picture, 22 other teams have more wins against +.500 teams.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 09:00 PM
we could have drafted Klay
And he's not as bad defensively as Fredette.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 09:02 PM
Evans with a steal, then he gets in the paint and passes to Greene for a jumper. Good play.
Some day, that will be Fredette. :)

PackfanMatt_12 (http://kingsforum.net/live/member.php?7-PackfanMatt_12), if possible, I'm going to try and make both ESPN games tomorrow. Miami-Oklahoma City and Grizzlies-Lakers. That's like a double-header you'd see in the playoffs. It will get me ready.
No promises whether I can make even any of the games, but I'll try.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 09:09 PM
I really cant stand Jimmer.
Did he do something today that annoyed you? Or are you just talking about this season?
nuraman00

Thomas with a defensive rebound, he drives down the court, hesitation move, then layup. 3-point play too!

just going into the draft I wasn't a fan of him. Then we traded back 3 spots for Salmons and took him, and he doesn't play anyd defense and the only thing he does do SHOOT. He hasn't done well at this season

Got it.
I wasn't a fan of the pick myself. But he's a longterm project (3 years or so). Also, other than Thompson, no one else has played that great after him. Thomas included. Thomas might be better right now, but I still don't think he's starting caliber.
nuraman00
03-24-2012, 09:19 PM
I think I like Fredette's game, what it could be, better than Thornton. All Thornton does is shoot. Fredette has better handles IMO.

yeah I gotcha. I think just all the hype before the season Jimmer had makes it even worse for him.
Let me ask you this if you had to go back (assume you knew Isaiah woulfnt make it to the 2nd round)
Would you take Thomas or Jimmer

03-24-2012, 09:21 PM
Cousins to Salmons for a layup. Good play. Salmons didn't finish strong though, it was a weak layup that rolled in. Wish Salmons could finish stronger like he used to.

Let me ask you this if you had to go back (assume you knew Isaiah woulfnt make it to the 2nd round)
Would you take Thomas or Jimmer
Good question.
Thomas: Can hit long shots, but is poor around the basket. His speed with his defense is helpful sometimes, but he apparently can get screened out. I do think he runs an offense better than Udrih. But Thomas isn't a playmaker, just like Udrih wasn't.
Fredette: Looks good when driving. His shot isn't there yet. He just has the "wrong" feel for the game. When he shoots, he looks awkward. When he passes, he makes the wrong decision. He gets isolated on defensively, he's a target.
I actually haven't even seen Fredette come off screens, like Thompson. He's only been a standstill catch-and-shoot guy, or a guy who shoots off the dribble. (I'm comparing him to Thompson, to show the various depths players can have in terms of offensive skill).
Thomas, is decent off the dribble, but only from 20 feet out.
I guess I would take Thomas, because he has less to improve on to be a starter. I'd say if he added a floater, he would be a starter. Maybe not a great one, but still a starter. I'd still have some reservations about his playmaking though.
For Fredette, he needs to get to the foul line. 66% of his shots are form beyond 16 feet. No prolific scorer can survive without the ability to draw fouls. And Fredette doesn't venture into the paint enough. He also needs to cut down on his turnovers. Improve his defense, by more than Thomas needs to. So that's 3 major things I'd have him improve on, before naming him a starter.
While Thomas only needs to improve on one, either adding a floater, or becoming a better defender (possible through experience).
Thomas wins.
Also take into account the Kings playoffs drought. The Kings can't wait for any more projects. They need to get as polished as possible. Unless you enjoy .340 seasons. They need to establish an identity, and a core, and can't wait 2-3 years for players.

Timeout.
Easy Prediction: If the Warriors don't hit a 3 coming out of a timeout, they'll have a thunderous dunk.

No, he lost it off himself. It's the equivalent of golden showering on himself, instead of on Klay Thompson.

what is Reke doing shooting a three..?? Really?! Probably the last person you want taking that shot. Yes, alot of stupid basketball being played. Now, can we stop the Isiah ROY considerations. Please...I love the guys play and heart, but he's not a starter> I said it before and I will say it again Thornton and Reke cannot coexist on this team. NoWay! They both are too samey and both desparately need the ball in their hands to be at all effective.

Isaiah is a rookie, he goofed up bad, but it doesn't take away from what he can do and has done already. He isn't a top tier point guard...may never be...but he is still a better PG then what this team has had since Bibby (who was terrible in a lot of ways). I personally want to see him continue to develop, and hope he fixes the few bugs that hold him back. Plus he really is one of the best rookies this year so he deserves to be in ROY talk. Even Irving makes a lot more mistakes right now, but has better overall stats for sure.
I do agree 100% that Thornton and Evans just do not mix well at all. It seems the team is less cohesive and has more bad possessions with them both starting. I'm perfectly fine with moving on from the Evans era. Cousins is showing that he is going to be the star of this team. We just need dependable people to place around him.
Warriors perimeter based team match up well with the Kings extremely sub-par perimeter defense.
Also, just an ill-timed mistake on Thomas' part. Cousins should have had an even bigger game given the zero post defense from the Warriors and Marcus Thornton is turning into a 2006 Ben Gordon 2.0. Pass the fucking ball.

Salmons has 93 assists in 1247 minutes. His assist % is 11.4%. (He is also averaging 2.7 assists since the ASG, and shooting .519 in those 15 games).
Thornton has 88 assists in 1447 minutes. (Kind of neat how they are exactly 200 minutes off of each other today). He has a 10.6% assist %. Outside of Jason Thompson, he's definitely the worst passer among the big minute players.

I think the lack of overall talent is the bigger problem, not Thornton and Evans starting. Especially lack of rebounding (in general, not yesterday), and lack of defense.
They had an ORTG of 109.2. That means they scored 109.2 points per 100 possessions. Oklahoma City leads the league in 107.5. So the Kings offense was better than Oklahoma City's average offense, last night.
The problem was their defense had a DRTG of 112.2. The worst defensive team in the league, the Nets, have a DRTG of 107.5. So they were 4.7 points worse than the average Nets defensive performance.
Kings are 27th in defense, tied with their soulmate, the Lizards, at 106.2.
If the Kings had Sessions-Thornton-Evans-Kris Humphries-Cousins, the Kings would have a team with a payroll not much higher than now, affordable, and in that Minnesota-Phoenix-Houston-Utah scrum.
Or, replace Sessions and Humphries with different players who are better at defense.

Did Thornton guard Thompson and Rush the majority of the game? I don't recall them switching different defenders on Thompson. Either way, both Thompson and Rush had great looks.
Thompson and Rush are turning into Kings killers, because the Kings can't stop them. I've mentioned this before, but Nate Robinson to Klay Thompson in the 2nd game in this matchup probably started it.
And Rush had 21 in a prior matchup.
Kings perimeter defense, even after all of these preseason and regular season meetings, just can't stop them.
Nor David Lee, he was the best big on the floor again in this matchup.

Here's the ESPN recap title. LOL:
Lee, Warriors clip Kings in error-filled affair (http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320324009)
I don't think anybody guarded anybody, even if they were "matched up" against them, lol.
Thornton plays awful defense - mostly because he's always cheating for a steal and he's always getting just that much caught on screens.
I saw Hayes give Lee a couple rough possessions, but outside of that, it was just eye wrenching all over. The amount of times Klay Thompson got a screen and had an essentially open shot was absurd.
Also, I like Keith but I've about had it with his love of all things matchup. Play your best players.

First off, if you don't preach defense..it's a by-product of what we see on the floor. That was the number one reason, Golden State did not bring back Smart in the first place. Smart's ethos is outscoring the other team and gambling on defense. That philosophy won't get you anywhere past medicore in the NBA. All of the good/great teams have solid consisitent defense. Smart will have one year for the team to buy into playing tough defense for 48 minutes. Not 3 minutes a game, hoping to claw you're way to a victory.

Thornton was supposed to be on Thompson/Rush. They were matched up based on position last night. Thornton though was too far off Klay. A lot of times he was hanging around the post when Thompson was at the 3 point line with the ball. He'd also do what Tyreke does (leave his man open to double someone that doesn't need the help).
The defense is just a disaster, and I'm dumbfounded that the team has fallen off so much rebounding. The past couple seasons, rebounding was a bright spot, but now its not. If Cousins isn't grabbing the board, chances are nobody is. JT has his nights but overall they should dominate the boards against teams like the Warriors, but they really don't.

I agree. All I've heard from Smart is running the basketball, and trying to rush out on the break. I honestly never like 100% offense schemes. Even if you make the playoffs you don't do well, and its much easier for things to go wrong especially if you are a team without legit shooters. I like what the Nuggets try to do. They are focused on building strong defense, and using defensive rebounds/turnovers to push the break. They don't have a true star, and have a lot of role players but they play good defense and team basketball so they win.

Denver is a good comparison. Both teams have younger players, but Denver does play better defense (even if they're 21st in DRTG) without much better defensive talent.
