Game 1 is on ABC.

I just caught the end of some weird music. Knowing ABC, it probably wasn't good.

They'll probably play it in their other ABC games, and in the Finals.

Why does Bryant always get matched up with smaller defenders? Ronnie Brewer for Utah a few years ago, Afflalo today.

He's too good of a shooter, he can just shoot over him.

I guess the risk of a taller but slower defender is that Bryant will get them into foul trouble, but I still think taller is the way to go.

Getting back at your Lawson comment..he's got Koufos and Faried starting up front. So offensively, he'll have some challenges finding opportunites for those guys.

Nice move by Faried. This guy just looks like an energy guy.

But I think he's raw on offense to say the least. And I haven't seen Koufos play but I assume he's just in there as a body for rebounding, and not a scorer.

Ok, my eyes have had to adjust to this game. Watching the Spurs game, there was so much black. And there court is a darker color too (compared to Staples Center). And the Lakers are wearing light colors

I know some people don't like the NBA playoffs, because they let too many teams in, and it's too long. And they don't like the 1st round.

But I like it.

Just no matter what teams play, there's more intensity in the playoffs. And I like seeing some rising stars in the playoffs, even if they're on teams that lose the series.

And, while not every 1st round series is competitive, you still get about 1/2 of them competitive, even at the extreme seeds. Like Boston-Chicago in 2009, or OKC-DAL this year, or SA-DAL in 2009.

And you can also get a better sense of coaching, during a series.

That possession was garbage and then Faried just takes it to the hoop and finishes nicely. Ok, maybe I underestimated this guy.

I hate the Spurs court, because they don't fill in the paint.

Back in 2007, their paint was still black. Now, they reversed it. :(

Bobcats had it filled in during 2009-2010, the year they made the playoffs. But the last two years, they reversed it.

I know their games are a little different, but Faried is like Pekovic in Minnesota.

He'll have these random 23 points, 14 board games.

Yeah. Fairweather fans don't appreciate it. The series' are too long.

And even during game 1 of round 1...there has still been a good amount of intensity and drama (both the presentation, and just the reaction from players and the crowd).

It makes you appreciate the depth of the NBA. The Nuggets are a really good team. You see how they have so many odd pieces , but they make it work. And coaching too: Someone like Koufos is starting..but how long will he play? They have so many big men that can play, how do you rotate that (McGee, Koufos, Faried, Mozgov, Anderson...heck, that's pretty competitive if you ask me at the 4 and 5).

But at the same time, most people write off Denver as someone who will lose in the 1st or surely the 2nd round. They're ok, but not Miami or OKC or SA level (which is true, but still, if this team can compete in a 7-game series against the Lakers (which I think they can do)) that still shows how 'close' they are to beating any team.

nuraman00
04-29-2012, 12:45 PM
Faried has played so well that I believe Marc Spears is putting him 3rd in ROY.

In 39 games as a starter, he's averaged 11 points, 8 rebounds, 59% shooting. Only 1.3 turnovers too.

Yeah, I like watching a team like Denver in the playoffs. Maybe they aren't elite, but they're close enough to make them worth watching a series.

OKC was the same way when they were an 8th seed in 2009-2010.

Those offensive fouls away from the ball (especially the ones 5 seconds or less into the shot clock are the worst).

Lawson dribbles up...whistle..illegal screen on McGee. How much give is there from the refs for these types of plays? Will some refs call more or less? How many times do they not see it or let it go?

No, only because I liked the 1994-1996 era SuperSonics court better (can't find a pic of it).

Also, I didn't necessarily like this Houston court the best, but it was very interesting:

Nice find. The Hornets court is cutting edge, but it's good. I like the color scheme and the checkerboard.

The Houston one wants me to go to sleep (or just lay in bed and think about how lazy I am)

But both of those have a design at the bottom of the court (originiating from the center logo) why cant we have that come back?

Yeah, I didn't like this as much. There's just too many colors that I don't like. Dark green and that marronish color don't go well together for me, and then adding gold, doesn't make it better for me. The actual design (space needle) is pretty cool though.

But teams used to do that more it seems (put the cityscape or skyline somewhere in the logo). The Rockets now just have an R..yeah I get that the R is kind of like a rocket taking off but it's still a lame letter, not identifiable with the city.

Oops, I meant Space Needle. Well actually I didn't mean that, but I forgot Seattle had the space needle. I'm embarrassed.

OKC's logo looks like a WNBA logo. I saw a sarcastic post "awesome" with a pic to the Thunder logo, on the Blazers board, when it was revealed.

Zach Randolph played from 2001-2007. They traded him away during the 2007 offseason, after drafting Oden.

Personally, I wanted to see a 3 headed monster of Oden, Aldridge, and Randolph. Or at least keep Randolph for a year and ease Oden in.

With Oden then being out for the season, I guess it wouldn't have mattered, as Randolph would have played regular minutes anyways.

I also get that they can't tie up big money in Roy, Aldridge, Randolph, and then Oden in the future, so that it had to be done.

I just preferred Randolph in the mix, and would have preferred Oden-Randolph with trading away Aldridge. Even though Aldridge was more valuable because he was on a rookie contract.

You were just at Target. Let me guess, you're going to Costco as a last-minute desperate attempt to find Munchies. You're going to walk up to a random stranger and stare him down for a while, then give him pointers on what he's buying wrong, then later in the parking lot you're going to tell him to 'stay out of your territory' then you're going to march back inside and demand Munchies, preferably the ultimate cheddar kind :)

Yeah..i'm seeing random shooting. They have good perimeter scorers so it's not terrible or unlikely for them to be doing this..just not enough to win a game in LA, against an LA team that's playing well.

Ok, bad story with the Reese's.

(This is a case of me being lazy). I had eaten about half of that blast yesterday and so I left the cup (with the contents remaining inside) and just set it on my window sill...thinking that I'd throw it away later or whatever (basically this equates to me not wanting to walk downstairs and throw it away). So I end up taking a nap, waking up later, and forgetting about the ice cream being there, I knock over the cup as I attempted to pull the shades up. So, there's still a lot of ice cream in there...and it just spills all over the sill and starts leaking down to the carpet, and of course the ice cream is nasty by now.

But anyway, it was good. I would probably go with Snickers though...I think that just tastes better to me.

It was in late January.

I had been drinking all night (but paced myself).

I watched:

* Kim Clijsters lose her SF to Azarenka. I was rooting for Clijsters. Tight 3 set match.

* Flipped between DEN-SAC and Clippers-Lakers. Denver scored 92 points in the paint at Power Balance and blew out the Kings. Clippers lost a close one to the Lakers. (Very chippy game, unlike the other ones between them in the regular season).

Fans were calling in the next day, complaining about how they took their family to the Kings game and didn't have a good time at all. Their kids were crying. They wanted to leave early.

* FED lose to Nadal from 12:30AM-3 or 4 AM.

Lawson might be better than Sessions..
and Faried is pretty damn impressive

bloatedmaniac
05-10-2012, 09:41 PM
Lawson has a better upside than Session. He is faster, better scorer, and excellent at getting out on the break. He just needs to work on defense more and running the team.

Sessions is what he will always be. A stable point guard who stays within his game. Very nice to have, you can do better, but can also do a lot worse. He is a guy I've wanted on the Kings for a few years.

Yeah, the Denver Faried Nugget has been a great find for the Nuggets. The guy is very athletic, works his butt off on both ends of the floor and for the most part doesn't make any stupid plays. If he continues the develop his game, he'll be a huge asset for the team.

Sir Harry
05-10-2012, 10:02 PM
I never thought much of Sessions....he always seems like he's out there trying NOT to fuckup....as opposed to playing aggressively

I never thought much of Sessions....he always seems like he's out there trying NOT to fuckup....as opposed to playing aggressively

Its just he is usually on bad teams. He really isn't aggressive, but thats a good thing for him. He makes plays for others, keeps the ball moving, and hits open shots. That isn't as apparent when you play for the Sonics or the T-Wolves or the Cavs who have nobody worth making plays for. His decision making has improved over the past few years though.

nuraman00
05-11-2012, 07:08 AM
I think Sessions runs a better halfcourt offense than Lawson. Lawson is great on the open court, and his defense isn't as bad as I thought it would be entering the NBA, but I still don't see much from him in the halfcourt. It was Lawson's only first year running the team though.

Lawson has more upside because of his speed and youth, but right now, he only affects the games when it's an uptempo possession, IMO.

Sir Harry
05-11-2012, 08:26 AM
Sessions isn't a guy that is going to take a Team very far IMO
Your pg needs to run a team well, but also needs to be a serious threat...Chris Paul being the best example

I would personally rather have a guy like Isaiah

Eze
05-11-2012, 09:13 AM
I think Sessions is a good role player - Lawson has a bigger ceiling, but, really didn't come into his own until this season.

Shame Isaiah is so small from a physical standpoint. He has as work ethic and desire to be great, which so many players lack - but with such a small frame, we've never really seen much more than a Mugsy or Spud Webb type ceiling from guys that size.

Sir Harry
05-11-2012, 10:26 AM
what is Lawson?
5'9" or so

Eze
05-11-2012, 10:32 AM
Bout 5'11 and 200 pounds, give or take.

Sir Harry
05-11-2012, 11:14 AM
5'11" is code for 5'9"

but I agree that Thomas is too small

Eze
05-11-2012, 11:21 AM
Haha, I agree they list the guys bigger then they are, but Thomas' 5'9 is more like 5'6 too, haha.

I think he'll make a great change of pace player though - one of the better the league has ever seen. Could easily be a "Roddy/Mavs" type on a good team - but not sure he could really be the starting PG on that said team. Hope he proves me wrong, but, odds are against him.

Sir Harry
05-11-2012, 11:23 AM
I agree....but that takes me back to Sessions
he isn't a starter on a good team.....and the Lakers should realize it

I haven't seen enough of him.

Although, I expected more out of him coming out of college. Maybe he was just an ok college player on a great college team. But even at Florida, he didn't do anything great, he was just the 3rd or 4th option who would chip in with a key shot or key rebound or key defensive play.

Are you graduating in a few weeks?

No, I'll be needing another semester. I need to setup a meeting with my advisor to figure out what I need. I only took 3 classes this past semester (typically I've taken 5).

Ok, I was over at a friend's house yesterday watching the Clippers-Spurs game so I didn't have time to comment on the game.

What were your thoughts?

What I noticed was..LAC was able to 'hang' with San Antonio some of the time. But then SA would go on their famous 'little runs' (When Duncan came back into the game in the 2nd quarter, they went on one of these little runs to end the half). Then LAC cut the lead to 4 in the 3rd, and SA went on a little run again. And then again late in the 3rd. The lead was 18-19 at that point.

LAC went on a run as well midway through the 4th..but I felt that at this point the game was over and SA wasn't playing with the same energy. That's not to say that LAC couldn'tve come back..it was just highly unlikely (I think the lead was cut to 8 and they couldn't get any closer after that).

This is how I see this series playing out. LAC just doesn't have the consistency that SA does. There were times where Kenyon Martin played like Martin from 10 years ago. Bledsoe and Butler played well too. But I don't see these 3 + Griffin + Paul all having good games, the same night. If they do, then LAC can win a game or two.

LA can't allow SA to hit 10+ 3's and for them to shoot 50+%. That's just too efficient and hard to match.

The thing I liked the most from SA was the ball movement. Quick, sharp passes during any sequence leading to good looks. Duncan had some nice shots from the post too. Parker had a poor shooting night but i didn't even notice since other players were able to pick up the slack (I'm talking about reserve guards). That's another thing SA does good. If Parker is sucking, then Gary Neal or Ginobili will go 3/4 or 3/5 from 3 or something. Leonard too.

nuraman00
05-16-2012, 07:49 PM
Does OKC have the best ratio of fastbreak players that can dunk? Ibaka, Harden, Durant, Westbrook can all dunk.

Other fast breaking teams, like the older Suns, Kings, or this year's Spurs, or Denver, have more shooters within their lineups, or non-dunkers.

If Parker is sucking, then Gary Neal or Ginobili will go 3/4 or 3/5 from 3 or something. Leonard too.

My thoughts are that the Clippers can't guard the Spurs. SA will be able to get any shot they want, all game long.

DeAndre Jordan is not a mature defender, like Chandler.

Reggie Evans is good but he fouls too much, so he can't play big minutes.

Martin, overall, isn't that good, and he's a poor rebounder. He'll have 4-5 great plays, but then won't really impact defensively for 10 others.

SA has always had great ball movement. That's why I like watching them. Even when they played slower, most shots they got were dunks, layups, or 3's.

I've always liked Parker too. He might not get gaudy assists, but if you just watch his role within the offense, he knows how to run the plays they want him to run. Plus, someone like Ginobili, Stephen Jackson, or Diaw are good ball handlers, so that eats into some of Parker's assists.

Parker was really wild his first two years, but he's grown a lot since those first two years, and he understands exactly what to do just about every trip down the floor.

And the Clippers are bad in a halfcourt offense. They were actually ok yesterday, but just given how they've played in all the games leading up to this, they will have ruts.

Bledsoe, I think is an x-factor. He can guard Parker, and he's getting better on offense. Almost like Teague from last year. I would start him over Foye.

But, I just don't see them having consistency.

The regular season games between these games were all close though. But, I think the Spurs will go all out during the playoffs more. What I mean is that even though the Spurs had a great record, they could have blown teams out during the regular season even more, had they not rested some of their players the way they did during games.

Spurs are not as good defensively as they used to be, but they can all rebound. Even someone like Jackson or Leonard will have these random 5-6 rebound games.

What do you think about my post about the Thunder having a lot of fast break dunkers? Can you think of a team that had more options that could dunk hard?

Atleast it's still a close game though.

I googled it and I guess Kum and Go's are only in Iowa, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and some other states.

I thought it was a national chain. It's a gas station.

Are those like ZigZags? Just plain white rolling papers?

I prefer Swishers because they burn much slower, and I also like the taste of the wrap.

Blake normally sucks, he did the same stuff for Portland. He'd miss FTs, miss shots.

I'm still hung up on his 5/5 3point game against Denver. So when I saw him in the corner, I got scared.

La should've won this game. OKC never played great (maybe the first couple minutes they did) but never held it together.

Now you go back home down 0-2.

Should KD miss the 2nd FT on purpose?

Speechless.

To be fair though, Ruffin was on his own half of the court (near midcourt) while the Lakers would've had to get the rebound, and throw up a 80-90 foot shot.

How bad of a shooting game was this from Kobe? I remember him hitting some decent shots in the 2nd half. But he went 9/25, 0/6 from 3, and only went to the line twice in 43 minutes.

Why would you ask Blake the question "How surprised were you that it was Kobe who made the turnover"

You're just putting the interviewee in a bad position. What's he supposed to say to that?

Lol. I heard that, I think Blake is just supposed to say something like "Kobe always comes through and I was surprised that it happened this one time".

The big goof to me was running down the shot clock. Puts all of your eggs in one basket. They knew the Thunder had a foul to give, either force them to use it or get a shot off quicker in case of a miss.

I thought Ron made the right pass and Blake took the shot he had to - he was wide open. Just missed it.

Mike Brown has never really struck me as a good head coach - then again, not sure it's all that easy to get through to Kobe or Lebron.
