Spurs are losing this game because of turnovers.
Kind of like Philly in some of their games.

Duncan bricks a FT.
He goes 1/2.
50-47, early 3rd.

These turnovers by the Spurs are very out of characteristic.

Why is Sefolosha posting up Ginobili? I understand the concept of making Ginobili work, but Sefolosha is a better shooter, not post up player.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 07:17 PM
I know it's only an 8 point game, but it's hard to see the Spurs coming back. I just don't think they can curb the turnovers or other mistakes they're making.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 07:20 PM
71-62, start of 4th. I still don't think the Spurs can come back, they've had so many chances and yet keep coughing it away.

Spurs are just turning it over too much. They're getting good looks, and getting a lot of offensive rebounds, but turnovers kill.
Regardless, even if the Spurs lose this, they'll probably win at least 1 game in OKC, if not both. Spurs are deadly on the road.

Too bad Splitter took the charge on Harden, and not Bonner on Harden. :)
IowaSacKing93
05-27-2012, 07:27 PM
Damn it Splitter, you need to hit 4th quarter free throws. Spurs are 4/9 as a team.
Nice layup drive by Neal. 73-68

Why is Sefolosha posting up Ginobili? .

They used the "Obi Wan Ginobili" theme during the 2005 playoffs.
They even asked Ginobili what he thought of the fans showing up with these kind of posters.
I sort of wondered if Ginobili even got the Star Wars reference.

I think he liked it because it worked against one of the other teams in the playoffs.
But Duncan is no joke in these playoffs.

The Thunder had this game. They weren't playing "over their heads", but just taking advantage of the Spurs mistakes. And I didn't think the Spurs would stop making those turnovers.
All the Thunder had to do was keep attacking on defense, IMO.
Brooks is getting taken to school by Pop. Spurs are just walking into the paint with no shot blocking while Ibaka sips juice on the bench.

Points this quarter
San Antonio 34

My fantasy is that if the Spurs win the title, I want Ginobili to get MVP, just because Parker and Duncan already have one.

That's typical Thunder. I'm just not that impressed with the Thunder defense, even with Ibaka. In my predictions, I said Ibaka would most likely be swatting air.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 08:05 PM
Tony Parker puts on his Westbrook jersey and gets a rebound.
Wonder if the Thunder got a bit cocky - not in the typical sense, but, just settling thinking they had the game after the third.

Yeah, this hurts for OKC.
I don't think SA is going to blow them out next game, but they have the momentum now. They were down by a decent margin and showed up OKC in the 4th.
Ginobili had some plays where he made the defense looked silly. I don't know what to say for OKC..maybe they just got tired. But SA did play well too down the stretch, and hit their shots. OKC missed a lot of jumpers.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 08:06 PM
The tired thing is lame. Like I said, the Thunder were in control, but realistically in control. It's not like they had some absurd stat like shooting 70%.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 08:08 PM
Tony Parker didn't even have a great game. If he and Ginobili get it going in the same game, it's going to be trouble. (Kramer voice).

So a team can't get tired in the 4th quarter, on the road? OKC doesn't have the experience. When San Antonio was going on their run early in the 4th, OKC would counter with jump shots. KD wasn't involved at all.
It's just one game..OKC Could come back and win by 20 next game..just fell off the map in this one. This isn't LA..if they play shitty down the stretch, they won't escape with wins.

I think tired usually shows up for a whole game. One of those games where a team seems a step slow in everything, not just the 4th quarter.
I think Durant needs better ball handling, then he can be more involved. He scores mostly from the perimeter, or the foul line. He needs to be able to get more shots in the paint.
Also, the Spurs are just good at making a shooter like Durant, or LeBron James, take bad shots. They just send a bunch of defenders at them.
The teams that have beaten them, it usually hasn't been one guy, but just a good system that beat them. For example, when Memphis beat them, it was an all-around performance, not one guy going for 30.
When Phoenix beat them in 2010, it was another team type win.
Similarly, the Thunder need Durant, Westbrook, AND Harden all going in the same game. Harden wasn't that good today. Durant was ok.
When Dallas beat them, Dirk only scored 21 or 22, he hasn't had 30 point type games.
nuraman00
05-27-2012, 08:19 PM
I don't think Ginobili will play as good the rest of the series. He's been really inconsistent all season. He just had a good game.
Harden will probably play better, and Westbrook can play better too.
But, the Spurs role players could make more 3's.

IowaSacKing93
05-31-2012, 06:32 PM
24-22 SA after 1.
Thoughts so far:
Too many turnovers in the first 4 minutes from SA
Too many contested/long/early shot clock shots from OKC. I understand that this is part of their game, but against SA, they're going to have to look for easy shots too..and work the shot clock to do that. They might get one win in this series if they keep up the long shots, but no more.
nuraman00

I'm thinking the Thunder sweep whoever comes out of the East, or close to it.

The Spurs had those looks.
Obi Wan did not have the force.
I thought that SA was too aggressive in the 4th with some of their play setups (leading to offensive fouls) But I also thought that there were a couple of calls that SA didn't deserve to get called for, and 2-3 calls that OKC Should've been called for (most notable when Perkins came out to set a screen and hit Parker, late in the game). These might not have decided the game..but I thought they were critical.
It's also kind of a two way street. Teams play more physical in the playoffs, but at the same time, some of these players will be extra dramatic, in order to get the call to go their way. So if you see someone set a hard screen, and another player go flying (Ginobili's screen on Harden that was called an offensive foul) It's tough to call that...should you let them play? Is that crossing the line? Is one of the players exaggerating? etc..
I liked Duncan's backdowns in the 4th..Parker had some impressive layups where he slipped through the defense..in transition. But other than that, a lot of missed jumpers..the 3 ball wasn't there in the 4th. OKC is just too athletic, got to the line, and hit their big shots.

If Miami can win 6 and 7, I'll give them a fair fight against OKC just because of the potential that is there. However, I'm not saying that if the Heat go through..that it'll be a good series, there's still so much that they need to work on. Bosh, Lebron, and Wade can get it together though.

Duncan's backdowns are the kind he normally makes.
Part of my series key was the Spurs killing the Thunder from the 3-point line. Well, the Spurs did hit a lot of 3's, and still lost.

If there's a healthy Bosh, it might be a good series.
But the Thunder probably have a better frontcourt, even with Bosh. Heat frontcourt stinks. Haslem isn't what he used to be, although he's had a few games. Anthony wouldn't even start for this year's Bobcats.

Spurs 24 fouls, Thunder 18.

Overall, yeah.
But it wasn't there in the 4th. OKC would hit 3's and Westbrook would hit these flashy jumpers...SA could never kill that 4th quarter momentum. If they were able to hit some of those outside shots, OKC's momentum would've dropped...but they had the confidence all quarter IMO

You mean the one that had the Knicks and Mavs in the conference finals? :)
Of course the Thunder would have beaten the Mavs, and the Heat vs. the Knicks, even in preseason.
You also had the Hawks beating the Celtics. :)

yes the same one that believed the Knicks would make it to the Conference Finals, and the Mavericks. Hawks seriously could have beat the Celtics.

Yeah, Hawks-Celtics was a tossup. It didn't have great shooting but I enjoyed the series.
I'd like to see the Hawks get either Nash or KG.
Imagine a frontcourt of KG, Horford, and Smith!
Or, imagine their offense with Nash!
I'd also like Indiana to get both Nash and KG, they can afford it.

I'd like to see OKC get Nash. Move Westbrook to SG, Harden 6th man.

Also, there were 6 predictions for the 2011 playoffs, that had the Thunder getting to the WCF. So between ESPN, Yahoo, and CBS Sports, they were expected to do big things last year too.
It's nice that they didn't take a step back, like what happened with Utah in 2007, or other examples (which I don't want to list right now).

LOL! The Thunder had the #2 offense though. How much better can Nash make them?
Still, between your ideas and mine, I think we're good fantasy GMs.

Nash doesn't need to score. he just needs to pass the ball with all those nifty things he does

yes I wasn't very bold with my prediction. Just have learned to stick by my guns until the team is eliminated

I know Nash doesn't need to score. But if they already shoot so well (they lead the NBA in TS %, 56.7), how much better looks can he get them?

Don't worry about it either way.
It would also be bad if you ignored new things that happened, once the regular season finished.
Not many teams win 10 playoffs games in a row.

Parker had an MVP first half, Spurs only scored 36 points in the 2nd half.
Incredible.

He was the first person since 2000-2001 to have 20 points, 10 assists, in the first half.
