Sharks almost had an empty net goal but Marleau decided to pass the puck and Pavs couldn't handle the pass. Penalty on Coyotes that will last the rest of the game. No more empty net.

Never mind empty net again, and Thornton (definitely not Marcus) gets the goal with 2 seconds left. Great comeback by the Sharks. 4 goals in 10 minutes. That's how you step it up

Big win. Gave up a few bad goals due to penalties and a lost puck, but they launched a full attack to get the lead back.

Thornton goes out of his way to thank the fans, and several sharks giving out their autographed jerseys.

There's different levels of penalties? I thought they were all 2 minutes, or are some longer?

There are a few different levels of penalties. The basic is a minor penalty which takes the player away for 2 minutes. The penalty is cancelled in event the team on the power play gets a goal.

Players can get double minors which are two penalties in one which go for 4 minutes. In the case today the player got called for interference in his effort to stop the Shark's breakaway. Then he bitched at the refs which got him an unsportsman like conduct. In a case like that the other team would need to score twice in order to end both the penalty times

You can also get a major penalty. This is the hockey equivalent of a flagrant foul. This gives you a 5 minute penalty, and your team will be short handed the entire 5 minutes no matter how many times the other team scores. This is usually reserved for fighting and hits to the head and cross checking or boarding a defenseless player from behind. In fighting though there is no powerplay since both teams lose a player so they skate 5 on 5 but the players who fought are in the box all 5 minutes.

There are also game misconducts which come from multiple major penalties, fighting twice in the same game, or any dangerous hit that comes with the intent the injure such as when they try to take out another player's knee or hip with a dirty hit. An old Shark Bryan Marchment was brutal when it came to illegal hits such as that and got suspended a lot for it. Typically in the case of a game misconduct the penalized team is charged with a 5 minute major and the offending player is instantly tossed from the game with potential fines/suspensions looming.
