Considering Tyreke could only hit about 3 of 93 from there last year, you should try out for the Kings

There are 3 training camp stories I see every year. Every team prints out the same story in a press release.

    1. Player A has lost 20 pounds! He is now faster than a cheetah!

    2. Player B has gained 20 pounds! Look how tough he is now.

    3. Player C is shooting 68% on practice 3-point shots! He will burn the nets down!

With respect to # 1 and 2, even those positive weight changes don't affect how the players play the game. They still have the same mannerisms and moves.

With respect to # 3, that's why it's practice. It rarely translates once the regular season starts, whether it's an All-Star that has allegedly improved his 3-point %, or a promising bench player.

Agree. I'm not too excited about it. If he has really dedicated this offseason to improving his 3-pointer, then chances are he might start hitting them at a slightly better rate. So maybe 34% instead of 29%. But he's not going to turn into Ray Allen. Do you think that Wade or Tony Parker practice there 3 during the offseason? Sure. But they're still not good at the 3.

I was looking at Parker's 3pt% over the years just out of curiosity, and he did have one year where he hit 39.5% of his 3's (but he only attempted 38 that year). In prior years (when he attempted 100+ 3's) he would hit 31,32,33% consistently. Then, one year, he just stopped taking the 3. He went from 156 to 36 attempted from 05 to 06 (both full years). Ever since then, he shoots anywhere from 35-70 per season. So has he gotten better? The numbers dont show it, he's been inconsistent. He had 3 straight years of shooting under 30%, then last year he shot 36 (keep in mind the sample size is relatively small). Then he had the one year where he shot 39.5...but the only thing we can conclude is that he's gone away from the shot and focuses on other things.

As for Wade, it's been the exact opposite.

His first 5 years: Less than 100 attempted each year (17-30%)

Last 3 seasons: 278,243,206. And hitting about 30-31%. So he still sucks, but he's taking way more. Even last year when he had LeBron and some 3 point specialists on the team, he took 200+ and hit a mediocre 30%.

So again, I'm sure both those guys worked on their shot, and Wade even began taking more 3's (he's taken more shots overall) but a higher percentage of 3's and there has been virtually been no improvement.

Tony Parker can now hit the corner 3-pointer, since the last few years. But he can't hit it from anywhere else on the floor. Since it's still a limited shot for him, he usually focuses on other things, agree.

I remember all the stories of Tyreke's improved shooting last year, and he still stunk. He has a mental hangup that forces him to fade away too much on shots when he is contested. Until he gets over that and makes shots in game, what he does in practice means nothing.
