Conceeding point (Memphis isn't deep in the Front Court) and have modified my post...
Have a plan, don't suck!
Agreed on Bayless... I just think that Wroten should have been a lottery pick and I am sure he would have been if he stayed in college one more year. He doesn't have a great shot, but I think that will come (if I am wrong, he won't be very good - didn't Conley have problems with his shot? - thank you Hollins). And he is big, 6-5, like Iman Shumpert. I think he is landing in a great situation behind Conley with a good coach and some good veterans. I think over time he could become a star and the steal of the draft because of his natural playmaking instincts. At worst, he is a good 10 min/game backup PG... if he doesn't shoot his way out of the league.
Championship Contenders/Really, Really Good
Miami - no change
Oklahoma City - no change
San Antonio - no change
Indiana - They kept Hibbert and Hill (with a solid backup in Augustin) and got my
favorite FA signing, Gerald Green. Granger/Green/George is one, in not The biggest most athletic wing trios in the NBA. They have a solid if not specatular PF group in West/Hansbrough. And although the Plumlee draft seems silly to some, I think he could become a very solid 10 minute per game C as a backup to Hibbert. - I think they stay the same or move up a group to Championship Contenders.
LA Lakers - getting old and getting thinner. But they added Nash. And he makes lots of problems disappear. Everyone will get their touches. Gasol will immediately become an all-star again. Bynum will get the ball where he can't be guarded. And Kobe will run within the offense... because he won't have the ball. The only real weakness they have is wing depth. But it should be pretty easy for them to add a couple of FAs for the NBA minimum. - probably better, can they replace San Antonio? - nope, playoffs.---- Now with the trade, I think with Dwight anchoring the defense (if healthy), they become a legit Championship contender.
Note: The west could have 3 60 win teams. Has that been done before?
-----------------------
Quarterfinalists/Playoffs
New Jersey now Brooklyn - Clearly the biggest spenders in the off-season. Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez are the starting 5. CJ Watson, Marshon Brooks, Keith Bogans, Jerry Stackhouse and Reggie Evans will be the backups... so they aren't exactly thin except at C. - back to playoffs.
Boston - lots of changes, Fab Melo, Jared Sullinger, Kris Joseph will be the younsters to suppliment Garnett and Bass. Rondo and the backups are just fine at PG and if Courney Lee steps up (which I doubt) then there will be - no change but I think they will drop and Indiana will replace them. As Nuraman points out, I forgot to add Jason Terry, which should be very helpful. Rondo will be able to find Terry for easy shots. I still don't think it gets them to the ECF... but they and Brooklyn will have plenty to say about this... - playoffs.
Philadelphia - A starting FC of Brown and Hawes... sigh. Holiday is a much improved PG but they don't have an adequate backup at this point. Turner and Young at the SG - ugh. Then they added Harkness to their already strong SF corps of Iggy, Young and Wright. But, they have Collins as their coach. My guess is that without a trade... - playoffs ---- Now with Bynum, they become much better. Giving up Iggy doesn't hurt them given their depth at the wings. - still playoffs.
LA Clippers - They are basically the same team. The difference will be the maturation of Jordan/Griffin. If they continue to improve, the team will continue to improve. Add Odom/Hollins and they are deep up front. - if Griffin becomes a legit superstar (with the injury, I think that will be tough), they move up, else they stay the same. - playoffs
Memphis - Deep at PG, they got deeper in the draft with Wroten. Thin in the front court but talented with Randolph/Gasol. Nuraman argues that Haddadi makes them not that thin in the FC... point conceeded with video proof - playoffs
Chicago - Marquis Teague will have his hands full but has Hinrich to help. Don't expect to see Rose back this season. Noah will be fine (ankles heal). - Don't expect to see them back in the Championship group until Rose is back. - playoffs.
Atlanta - Got rid of JJ and Williams and now have control of their cap. Teague/Harris is a very solid PG rotation. With a starting wing rotation of Korver/Morrow and backups of Williams and Jenkins. They can shoot the ball. The key will be Smith and Horford creating shots (and passing the ball). Pachulia played well last year, and will allow a rotation of Horford/Smith/Pachulia without much drop-off. - Playoffs
Denver - Big signing... wait for it... McGee - ugh! Possibly the lowest BBall IQ in the NBA. But... Lawson/Miller are a really solid PG rotation. Affalo/Brewer/Fournier is a really solid SG rotation and Gallinari/Chandler/Miller are a really solid deep SF rotation. But I am really not sold on a Faried/McGee starting FC. Harrington had another solid year so that helps... Koufos/Mozgov... meh - playoffs -- Now with the addition of Iggy... where do they play him? Theyt have 5 SFs, what? Brewer and Fournier are now the SGs. I don't understand what Denver is doing... - still playoffs.
New York - Lost Lin instead have Felton/Kidd - meh. Chandler/Camby at C - nice, Stoudemire/Thomas at PF - nice, Anthony/Novak at SF, nice, Smith/Shumpert as SG, nice. - don't see them moving past Boston or Indiana and see them getting passed by Brooklyn. Might pass Philly. - same
Dallas - Kaman is the new C, with Wright as a backup. Nowitzki got Brand as his backup. So the frontcourt is fine. Merion/Carter will hold down the SF slot... meh. Mayo/Jones at the SG slot... meh. I think Darren Collison is an upgrade over an aging Kidd. But I don't think they improved and they lost their firepower off the bench. They got worse but still in the Playoff group. - same.
Minnesota - They had a great start to the season and then the knee injury to Rubio took them down a notch. Then Love went down and that was it... back to No Man's Land. This year it looks like Ridnour/Barea at the PG, I doubt Rubio will really be back this year. Now they team Kirilenko with Love at the forward position with Budinger and Willimas. Overall, not to bad. Pekovic and Stiemsma don't overwhelm but they won't hurt either. Question is Will Johnson step up? Or will Adelman lay Budinger at SG? Either way - up to the playoffs
-----------
No Man's Land - .400 to .500 teams that don't make the playoffs (although one of the west teams will make the playoffs)
Golden State - Getting away from the small guard line-up, Curry will be left to run the offense if his ankle holds up. Otherwise it will be Jarrett Jack. Thompson had a good Rookie season but not much depth at SG. Barnes and Jefferson will be the other wings. Look for Barnes to get minutes at SG as well. The strenght will be in the front court. Bogut if healthy and Lee if healthy will be very good. Plus having Biedrins and Ezeil will give them enough backup minutes to not wear Bogans and Lee out. - back to No Man's Land.
Utah - Very unimpressed with what they did in the off-season. Mo Williams as your starting PG? Tinsley/Watson as the backups? Jefferson/Kanter/Millsap/Favors aren't going to scare anyone defensively. They REALLY need Kanter and Favors to make huge strides. Marvin Williams as your starting SF... ouch - No Man's Land.
Milwaukee - The experiment with a small guard rotation begins in Milwaukee. How did that turnout in Golden State? They did pickup Dalembert and Henson (in the draft) so they did get deeper in the front court - Dalembert/ Udoh/Gooden/Ilyasova/Henson. I am underwhelmed by their SF rotation though. Dunleavy/Mbah a Moute... meh. I do think that although the guard roation is small it is relatively deep as well. Ellis/Lamb (great pick, IMO), Jennings/Udrih. - same - they stay in No Man's Land
Toronto - They had a good draft picking up Terrence Ross and they bring in Valanciunas to go with Bargnani in the front court with Johnson, Davis and Quincy Acy off the bench. I really like Valanciunas. DeRozan, Kleiza, Ross and Fields are solid at the wings. If Lowry and Calderon can get along then... - into No Man's Land.
Washington - Last season they got rid of the knuckleheads. McGee, Blatche and Young are gone. And as soon as they left, the team started playing defense. There are still huge holes but they are better. The front court is now pretty deep with Nene, Seraphin, Okafor, Booker and Vesely. Trevor Ariza will start moving Singleton back to the bench. Beal/Crawford will take care of the SG position and Wall will have Price for a backup. Wittman did a good job as a coach and brought on Don Newman as a defensive specialist. - move to No Man's Land
Portland - First off, they have declared that they are rebuilding... they did a fine job in the draft. Lilard is going to be a good PG right out of the gate and Leonard will start as well. Aldridge/Hickson will round out the FC which will be fine but not great. They resigned Batum and are realitively deep ath SF (I liked the Barton draft pick as well). The guard rotation is thin past Lillard/Matthews. - still bad but a nice start to the rebuilding process with two new starters out of the draft. - back to No Man's Land.
-----------
Bad
Cleveland - Dion Waiters? Really? Still they will be better. Varejao will be healthy and Zeller was a good pickup and gives them some depth at C. Tristan Thompson was solid in his rookie season. Casspi is their starting SF though with Azubuike and the oft injured Walton. Irving will continue to get better but... - back to bad until they sort out the wings.
Detroit - Starting the rebuilding process with Monroe/Drummond in the front court could be great, or not so much. Brandon Knight had a nice rookie season. I am not sold on the rest of the team. - back in the bad.
Sacramento - Somebody has to have a breakout season for this group to go anywhere. All the slots are filled. Now they have to play like a team and defend like a team. Do you believe? - back to bad.
Houston - Probably one of the most active team's in the off-season. First, the draft was great. Lamb, White and Jones could all be starters in the NBA IMO. They picked up Lin at PG and Livingston will be a reasonable backup for a rebuilding team. Martin is in the last year of his contract - can you say contract year effort? Parsons/Jones will be a solid SF rotation, IMO. Patterson/White will be fine at PF... I look for White to take his job. Motiejunas/Asik will hold down the C position. What is intesting is they have 19 under contract, although 4 of the contracts are not fully guaranteed. Good start to rebuilding... - move to bad.
Phoenix - Lose Nash, Kendall Marshall/Goran Dragic are the replacements. Enough said, they are rebuiding. Gortat/Scola/Frye will be a fine front court. But Dudley/Brown/Beasley will get killed on a nightly basis. Let the rebuilding
begin - move to bad.
New Orleans - Anthony Davis... a very nice start to rebuilding. Then they pickup Ryan Anderson. Nice. Not much depth in the frontcourt but it is a start. Then they pickup Lopez and Warrick...??? OK, they have depth in the front court. And they resigned Eric Gordon. BUT... Vasquez and Rivers are their PGs. And I like Aminu but that is about it in the Wing position. - back to bad
Charlotte - Last year the injury bug bit a bad team hard... results were a very, very bad team that didn't try. So MJ picked the best competitor in the draft, MKG. He also upgraded the unit getting Sessions/Walker at PG and Gordon at SG. So the PG/wings won't be great, but they won't be terrible either. The front court is another matter. Haywood/Mullens/Diop/Biyombo/Thomas aren't goint to do much on the offensive end and they aren't great on the defensive end. Still... - move up to bad.
Very Very bad
Orlando - Look for a Dwight trade. And look for Turk and Richardson to go in the deal. Look for picks and bad players on short contracts to come back the other way. And the result - move to very, very bad. -- after the trade... - still see them being very, very bad. They could surprise and just be bad. Ayon and Vucevic are the Cs on the team. Big Baby and Harrington at PF. Can you say lay-up festival.
Have a plan, don't suck!
yea he can come right in for Denver and help them out alot. I wish the Kings got Iggy but I dont see him staying in Denver. I think these players involved in the Magic trade will be traded later. I see Gasol being traded to the Rockets. Iggy will go somewhere or sign somewhere else after the yr is over. So how many FA contracts did u see moved in this trade?2? Bynum and Iggy? Now we are just waiting for our piece to be moved Tyreke!
Barbosa still a free agent, anyone know where this dude may end up or fit in? I just hope it's not the Lakers....
