No more Baker's Square in CA?

I just realized they have no more Bakers Square pies in CA. In fact, they're not even on the West Coast anymore, and are only in 6 states:

Apparently they had more than 80 locations in California, but closed them by February 2009.

That name sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if we have any here.

Apparently it's 10 miles away from Des Moines.

You should check it out. I loved Barkers Square.

Get something by them and let me know what you think.

    I will.

I used to live in Clive, but for less than a year.

I had a pie stamp card with them. They had a new one that expired every year. If you got 6 pies in a year, and got them stamped each time, you'd get one free.

I never used all of them in a year, but I would go there a few times a year, as especially with my former roommates.

Wow, never tried that one. Thanks.

I always preferred them slightly to Marie Callenders.

Oh man it was soooo good. I would pay a lot for one of those pies.

Does this look like it? Do those like all or most of the ingredients?

I've never made a pie by myself, it could be something new for me to try.

So "Shari's Pies" bought out some Bakers Square, including one near me. I called Shari's Pies and asked if they make a candy cane pie. He said no. They did it when they were Bakers Square, but not as Shari's.

    Peppermint Candy Cane Pie

    9-inch chocolate cookie crust
    1 envelope unflavored gelatin
    1 1/2 c. cold milk
6 to 8 peppermint candy canes
    1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs, separated
    1/4 t. salt
    1/8 t. red food coloring
    1/2 c. heavy cream
    1 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
    2 T. butter or margarine
    1 1/2 T. milk
    1 c. powdered sugar, sifted
    pinch of salt
    1/4 t. vanilla

    Soften gelatin in 1/2 cup cold milk. Crush candy canes;
measure 1/2 cup. In saucepan combine 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup
of sugar, slightly beaten egg yolks and salt. Mix well.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until slightly
thick. Add softened gelatin and stir to dissolve. Blend
in food coloring. Chill until mixture begins to thicken.

Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar
and beat until stiff. Beat cream until stiff. Fold gently
into custard, then fold in egg whites. Chill until filling
holds its shape when stirred. Stir in peppermint, then
spoon into pie shell and chill until firm, about 4 hours.

Melt chocolate and butter together. Blend in milk, powdered
sugar, pinch of salt and vanilla; blend until smooth. Thin
with some cream if necessary. Serve over pie

Ok, I'll try to make it within a month.

Maybe even on Thanksgiving day (for myself). It can't hurt any worse than all of the other food I'll be eating that day.
