Posts use Markdown. You do not have to learn it; plain text works fine. But a few marks go a long way.
Text
**bold**for bold,*italic*for italic,~~struck~~forstruck.- A blank line starts a new paragraph. A line starting with
-makes a list. >at the start of a line makes a quote. The Quote button under any post does this for you.- Backticks make
code; three backticks on their own lines make a code block.
Links and videos
Paste an address and it becomes a link. Paste a YouTube or Vimeo address on a line of its own and it becomes the video, right in the post.
Paste a link to another discussion or post on this forum on a line of its own and it turns into a card with the title and the opening words.
People
Write @username to mention a member. They get a notification and a link to your post.
Sharing and privacy
Every discussion and post has a Share menu with a copy-link button. When you start a discussion you can tick Link only: it stays out of the boards, search and the feed, and only people with the link can read it.
Editing and reporting
Your own posts have an Edit link under them; edited posts show a small "edited" note. If something breaks the guidelines, use Report, pick what is wrong, and a moderator will look.
